1986
The company is founded in Tustin, California and incorporated under the name of SRI Powervar. The company pioneers the use of toroidal transformers for power conditioning applications.
1987
The company introduces its first power conditioning products to the marketplace.
Powervar trademarks the concept of “The ABC`s of Power Conditioning®” as a tool to demystify the topic of power protection.
1989
Operations are moved to new facilities in Lake Forest, Illinois (a northwest Chicago suburb). The new facility has 9000 square feet with one half being used for manufacturing and half for administration. New models are added and product line is re-engineered.
1991
First power conditioners for medical use (UL544) are introduced.
1992
First power conditioners for international applications (50/60 Hz., 230 volt) are introduced.
1993
1993 – Sales exceed $5 million for the first time. Facility space is increased.
1994 –The power conditioning industry is revolutionized with Powervar`s introduction of a new generation of power conditioners with attractive styling and functional LED indicators. Facility space is increased.
1995
1995/96 – Powervar introduces Ground Guard ®, the first power conditioner that replaces dedicated/isolated electrical wiring. In 1995 and 1996, applications are made for U.S., Canadian, and International patents. U.S. patent issues in 1997, Canadian and International patents issue in 2000.
1997 – Increased product demand results in elimination of production line in favor of a kanban driven cellular manufacturing system. Lead times drop dramatically. Sales exceed $10 million for the first time. Manufacturing space is doubled and production capacity increases exponentially.
1998 – International sales and service headquarters opens in Swindon, United Kingdom to service customers with global requirements.
1999
1999 – Sales exceed $20 million for the first time.
2000 – The Security One Uninterruptible Power Manager (UPM) introduces the concept of Managed Power. Product is available in standard, IEC601 Medical, and Ground Guard ® versions for applications worldwide.
2001
2001 – Construction completed on new 50,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Waukegan, IL.
2002 – Powervar becomes ISO9001-2002 Certified.
2003 – Powervar introduces new family of three phase power conditioners. The Global Power Interface Series 2000 spans 10kVA to 300kVA, is safety agency listed and certified to semi standard S2-0200.
2004
Powervar Opens Sales Office in Germany.
Powervar`s UK operation moves to larger facility.
Sales exceed $30 million.
2005
Powervar adds customer engineering capability.
Powervar receives Frost and Sullivan award for healthcare market.
Powervar Acquires ETA Systems.
2008
RSPA awards Powervar their Gold Medallion Award.
Powervar introduces the LAPC for the retail market.

2009 – Powervar releases the Security Plus UPS Series.
