All Powervar Power Conditioners, UPM's, and Security Plus Products are now Compliant with WEEE and RoHS Directives — Mar 4, 2009
Two important regulations began as initiatives in the European Union and are now spreading throughout the globe. The WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) directive is intended to reduce the waste arising from electrical and electronic equipment and to improve the environmental performance of all those involved in the life cycle of electrical and electronic products. The RoHS (Restriction on Hazardous Substances) directive is designed to eliminate lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, cadmium, polybrominated biphenyls, polybrominated diphenyl ether, pentabromodiphenyl ether, and octabromidphenyl ether from electrical and electronic products.
These regulations are clearly aimed at protecting the safety of our global environment. The importance of achieving this goal is obvious given that many non-European countries (as well as some states in the United States) have now set their own deadlines for compliance with these regulations.
Some manufacturers of electrical and electronic products are parsing the meanings of these regulations to avoid the effort and cost of compliance. Among them are some manufacturers of power conditioners and uninterruptible power supplies who are using perceived loopholes in the regulations to say that their products are exempt.
POWERVAR cares about protecting our global environment and believes that compliance with lawful environmental regulations is part of being a good "corporate citizen." While some other manufacturers may debate the applicability of WEEE and RoHS to the products they manufacture, POWERVAR is in full voluntary compliance with the requirements of both regulations on all the products we manufacture.
